Tongji University successfully organized the “Aging and Pragmatic Communication for the Elderly” session of the 17th International Pragmatics Conference

From June 27 to July 2, 2021, the 17th International Pragmatics Conference was held in Winterthur, Switzerland, which was jointly organized by the International Pragmatics Association and Zurich University of Applied Sciences.

Due to the epidemic, it was held online. Professor Gu Yueguo (member of the Advisory Committee of the International Pragmatics Association) and Associate Professor Huang Lihe (council member of the Chinese Pragmatics Association) from Tongji University Research Center for Aging, Language and Care organized a session on “Aging and Pragmatic Communication for the Elderly”. Researcher Zhang Wei, Associate Professor Huang Lihe, and doctoral student Zhou Deyu from the Center reported their research findings respectively, which involved topics such as identity construction of the elderly in the media, conversational assessment in cognitive evaluation of the elderly, and development of the multi-modal corpus of the discourse of the elderly.
